Donor and Community Outreach AmeriCorps VISTA Position

The Hope Center (a qualified HUD Envision Center) in Lexington, KY is seeking an AmeriCorps VISTA to assist our Development Department with communications, fundraising and community outreach. The Hope Center provides life-sustaining services to homeless and at-risk individuals. Services include food, shelter and clothing, addiction recovery programs, mental health diagnosis and treatment, transitional and permanent housing, employment assistance, support for veterans, mobile outreach, and more. The Hope Center will serve as the site placement for the Project Reach Out for Hope VISTA. This VISTA is a full-time service opportunity through the Homeless and Housing Coalition of Kentucky’s Homes for All AmeriCorps VISTA program. This is a full-time, year-long service position, with a stipend and living allowance paid by AmeriCorps.

The successful candidate will assist the Hope Center in expanding our supporter base and executing a plan to re-engage lapsed donors and research and connect with potential new donors while increasing community awareness and education of the Hope Center’s mission via tours and community outreach. The position will also focus on increasing volunteer engagement and increasing the numbers of active donors making financial gifts to the Hope Center. The candidate will have the ability to work independently and as a part of a team, be computer and social media proficient, be self-motivated, detail oriented and have a willingness to learn new skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

Successful applicants will pass a criminal background check, be committed to serving a year of full-time service with the project, and have a passion for combatting homelessness. Position requirements are a Bachelor’s degree, strong computer skills, including experience in MS Office (Word and Excel). Database experience in Raiser’s Edge preferred. VISTA members must be at least 18 years of age, US citizens, nationals or legal residents. The position’s start date is August 2, 2021.
AmeriCorps VISTA is a program through the Corporation for National and Community Service. Program benefits include: choice of Education Award or End of Service stipend, a bi-weekly living allowance, health coverage, childcare assistance if eligible, and monthly trainings.
