Detention Center Recovery Program Caseworker

Full-Time, Nonexempt position


The Detention Center Caseworker assists in educating inmates about the model that will help them live a sober life. The duties require close coordination, collaboration, tracking and monitoring of inmates to ensure compliance with department regulations.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

1. Instructs in Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI), which requires presenting information in a class setting, assigning and checking class work and entering results in inmates’ folders.
2. Instructs on Recovery Dynamics (RD), which requires presenting in a class setting, monitoring progression of the 12 Steps, assigning and checking homework and entering results in inmates’ folders.
3. Provides recovery counseling on a one-on-one basis and answering any questions or concerns from inmates.
4. Completes orientation for program inmates, including but not limited to, completing intake forms, drug/alcohol screenings, release of information signatures, overview of classes in the Therapeutic Community (T.C.) Program, explaining job assignments, class schedules, activities schedule and Community process, entering staff notes in inmates’ folders and reviewing the client contract.
5. Assists in inmate screenings, which includes speaking with the inmate, completing Substance Abuse Screening, checking legal status, informing Classification of need to move inmate to FF pod and assigning inmate a 24-hour buddy.
6. Participates in Community with inmates, which includes hearing issues/concerns from inmates regarding behavior, questioning inmates, assisting in assigning appropriate community suggestions and entering information in inmates’ folders.
7. Meets with inmates during Daily Reflection by reading morning meditations and expressing personal thoughts.
8. Responsible for documenting, charting and filing in inmates’ folders the progress in classes, homework assignments, concerns, legal information, Fayette County Detention Center concerns and discharge summaries.
9. Escorts inmates and visitors around the Fayette County Detention Center.
10. Maintains inmate confidentiality and privacy.
11. Adheres to all policies and procedures of the Hope Center and Fayette County Detention Center.
12. Takes appropriate action in crisis situations (violence or threats of violence, suicide and threats of suicide, natural disasters, etc.).
13. Participates in all scheduled trainings and meetings.
14. Contacts Director of Programs for any unusual circumstances or any concerns.
15. Performs other duties as directed by supervisor.

Required Education and Experience
1. High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
2. If in recovery, must have at least 1 year of continuous sobriety.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
1. Current driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
2. Maintain First Aid and CPR Certification.

Other Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to work with persons in a manner that shows sensitivity to cultural diversity, sexual orientation, and racial/ethnic differences.
2. Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel).
3. Must be knowledgeable of Recovery Dynamics.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
1. Must be able to pass drug screen.
2. Must not be under supervision in the past 5 years by the Department of Corrections or Probation & Parole.
3. Must be able to pass pre-employment background check.

Targeted Case Management (TCM) Coordinator

Full-time, Nonexempt Position

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Provides oversight and coordinates services for the Targeted Case Management Program.
  • Identifies and screens potential participants in the program.
  • Enters client records and completes monthly billing in Dr. Chrono and coordinates with TCM billing staff to ensure claims are paid each month.
  • Completes Prior Authorizations with insurance companies and submits renewals every three months, or as requested.
  • Works with clients to formulate and complete service plans on case management referrals and reviews & updates these case plans every three months.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with housing providers in the community to find appropriate permanent housing.
  • Assists clients with filling out paperwork needed to facilitate finding and moving into housing.
  • Conducts home visits at least once per week with clients who are housed.
  • Collaborates with clients to formulate a treatment plan to help identify goals and needs that will assist with long term stability.
  • Partners with landlords/housing providers to address issues to assist clients in maintaining housing.
  • Attempts to engage clients in appropriate services as determined by clients’ needs and/or wishes.
  • Coordinates mental health, medical, and substance abuse services with Hope Center or other community providers, as needed.
  • Provides or arranges transportation to and from appointments as needed and works with clients on using public transportation, if possible.
  • Helps clients identify local community resources as they relate to individual need.
  • Offers education, assistance on meeting basic needs and life skills when appropriate.
  • Attends weekly case management, mental health, and Coordinators meetings.
  • Conducts ongoing trainings and in-service for Hope Center Case Managers and other staff regarding housing practices.
  • Participates in continuing education and staff training programs.
  • Adheres to all rules and procedures of Hope Center, Inc.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field

Preferred Education and Experience
