Following is a partial list of volunteer opportunities. Opportunities may vary from day-to-day. Please indicate how you would like to help at the Hope Center.

Serve a Meal

Serve a meal at the Emergency Shelter (Maximum of five people), or supply, prepare, and serve the meal.
Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 a.m. Mon-Fri
8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Sat/Sun and holidays
Lunch: 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Mon-Sun
Dinner: 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Mon-

Administrative

Help office staff with mass mailings by stuffing envelopes
Hand-write thank you letters to donors
Data Entry

Outdoor Yard Work

Plant and maintain flower beds
Trim plants
Plant bulbs for spring flowers (flowers should be provided by volunteer or donated)
Pick up trash around the yard and parking lot
Sweep curbs where grass and trash reside
Sweep rocks back into place
Sweep sidewalks
Weed-eat edges of sidewalks
Pull weeds
Trim bushes
Prune dead limbs and overgrowth from trees
Assist with the Hope Center garden

Indoor (painting, cleaning, making sandwiches for Hope Mobile, etc.)

Apply a fresh coat of paint to interior walls, paint business offices, touch-up existing paint
Decorate halls/bulletin boards
Wipe down mattresses
Organize personal needs closet
Wash windows and/or walls
Host a party for clients during a meal
Become a regular monthly or weekly volunteer and help with needs as they arise
Donate ingredients and prepare sandwiches for our HopeMobile clients

Hold a Personal Needs Drive

We are always in need of shower shoes, new white socks, notebook paper, pens, bus tokens, large-sized clothing and shoes, winter coats, like-new or new shoes, washcloths, towels, trial-size soap, trial-size toothpaste, toothbrushes, trial-size or spray deodorant, trial-size shampoo, trial-size conditioner, trial-size shaving cream, disposable razors, cleaning supplies, kitchen towels (these can be inexpensive, bulk packaged)

Dual Relationships

A Dual Relationship is a situation in which a Volunteer has a relationship with a client as a result of his or her connection to the Hope Center. Each Volunteer has a duty to report any Dual Relationship with a client to the Director of Volunteer Relations.

Unacceptable Dual Relationships are strictly prohibited.

The following are examples of unacceptable Dual Relationships:

  • Entering into a romantic or sexual relationship with a client.
  • Borrowing or accepting money from a client.
  • Buying from or selling any item to a client.
  • Borrowing from or lending any item to a client.
  • Hiring or allowing a client to perform work for the Volunteer's personal business, home or family, such as housekeeping, babysitting, yard work, etc., unless the work is arranged through the Hope Center's Employment or Day Labor Program.

 

The following are examples of Dual Relationships that require a written request to the Volunteer Coordinator. Approval may or may not be granted.

1. Lending money to a client for an emergency need.
2. Bringing a client into a Volunteer's home as a resident on an emergency basis or otherwise.
3. Accepting gifts from a client.
4. Social contact with a client that is outside the Volunteer's professional responsibilities.

An individual is a client of the Hope Center during the time he or she is receiving services from the Hope Center and for a period of twelve months following the last date of delivery of such services.

By signing this form I realize that I may not give out any information about clients of the Hope Center. I will refrain from the use of any picture recording device including cameras, cell phones, and video cameras while in the Hope Center, nor am I allowed to make any public statement about this organization.. I realize that I am responsible for my own safety and that the Hope Center is not responsible for any negligence on my part.

I attest that the above information is true to the best of my knowledge and give permission for the Hope Center to verify its authenticity. I understand the volunteer opportunities available and am able to perform these duties. I understand that filling out an application does not guarantee volunteer placement. I will respect and observe the volunteer schedule. I agree to the Confidentiality Clause and I will not engage in Dual Relationships with Hope Center clients.
