A huge thank you to Hope Center volunteer Larry McCoy, who recently hosted a picnic for all of our clients at the Emergency Shelter and in the Men's Recovery Program. The picnic was in honor of Nicholas McQueen, who passed away earlier this year. His memory was honored with a balloon release and the donation of over 100 blankets to the shelter. Over 600 burgers were served, and the guys enjoyed live music, a DJ and volleyball. Thank you to Larry and his family and friends for your generosity! (3 photos) ... See MoreSee Less

We need your help! The Emergency Shelter needs donations of disposable razors, deodorant, shampoo, and toothbrushes. If you can help us with these needs, please drop your donation off at 360 West Loudon Avenue. Staff is at the desk 24/7 and will happily accept anything you can give. Thank you! ... See MoreSee Less

Thank you to our friends at Bluegrass Community and Technical College for their generous donation of toiletries and clothing! Pictured here are Laurel Martin, Hope Center staff member Joanne Goods, and Miranda Hines. Joanne is a current student at BCTC, so the ladies had a lot to talk about while sorting the donations! ... The Hope Center would like thank Christina Mathers for her 10 ½ years of exceptional service to the Center and our clients. Christina was the Intake Administrative Assistant and now that she has her B.A. in Special Education, she will start at a Lexington school next week.

“One of the best things about the Hope Center is creating friendships with the clients. Sometimes all they need is a listening ear. Also, my coworkers here are like a family,” said Christina.

And we are happy to announce that Mark Hall, former long-time Peer Mentor and more recently Detox Caseworker, will now take on Christina’s duties.

“I am excited about this opportunity that allows me to move forward in my personal life and career as well as continue to give back to the people and the place that saved my life,” said Mark. “I owe Christina so much. Not only all that she has taught me but also for her work behind the scenes that has saved so many lives. And I am one of those lives.”

David Shadd, Director of Programs (pictured right) added, “Christina has been a huge part of the Hope Center family and will certainly be missed. She is a great person and will have a lot of success in her new career path. But we are certainly in good hands with Mark. Even though he has big shoes to fill, he is going to be a great addition.”

We are proud of both Christina and Mark and all they have and will contribute to rebuilding lives.
