See MoreSee LessPosted 16 hours ago · Hope CenterThe Hope Center would like thank Christina Mathers for her 10 ½ years of exceptional service to the Center and our clients. Christina was the Intake Administrative Assistant and now that she has her B.A. in Special Education, she will start at a Lexington school next week.“One of the best things about the Hope Center is creating friendships with the clients. Sometimes all they need is a listening ear. Also, my coworkers here are like a family,” said Christina. And we are happy to announce that Mark Hall, former long-time Peer Mentor and more recently Detox Caseworker, will now take on Christina’s duties. “I am excited about this opportunity that allows me to move forward in my personal life and career as well as continue to give back to the people and the place that saved my life,” said Mark. “I owe Christina so much. Not only all that she has taught me but also for her work behind the scenes that has saved so many lives. And I am one of those lives.”David Shadd, Director of Programs (pictured right) added, “Christina has been a huge part of the Hope Center family and will certainly be missed. She is a great person and will have a lot of success in her new career path. But we are certainly in good hands with Mark. Even though he has big shoes to fill, he is going to be a great addition.”We are proud of both Christina and Mark and all they have and will contribute to rebuilding lives. ... Brenda began her recovery in our Detention Center program and successfully entered Phase II of the Women's Recovery Program earlier this year. She is a Rouse House resident now, and has changed her life. When she told us her story, the joy she feels about her life now radiated from her. "I started using drugs when I was 15 years old, and had twins shortly after that, then a daughter. After two years, they were taken from me. Once that happened, I was destroyed. I overdosed, and was on life support for two weeks, and as a result, I have to wear hearing aids now. When I was sent to jail and had no choice but to detox, I was so sick, and I promised myself I’d never do that again. I got into the Hope Center Jail Program, and now I have 15 months clean. I was able to finish the program in a little over five months and it turned out to be the best decision of my life. I moved into the Rouse House four months after I was released from jail and I absolutely love it. I’ve never had my own apartment. I have something to call mine and I’ve worked for every single thing in my apartment. It makes me feel like a real woman. When I was using, I never thought about working or having my own apartment, but now, it’s my life. I know now that I am too good to do the things I did. If you want to succeed, you can do it. If you want help, it’s definitely here. My life has completely changed, and I love it." ... See MoreSee LessPosted 2 weeks ago · Hope Center: Night of Hope 2013 from Bullhorn on Vimeo.
